THE LEAF SHRINE

Possibly the Pokemon franchise's biggest victim of getting sidelined, Leaf however persisted and now continues on having adventures, be it on her own or with the boys. This shrine will be taking note of everything that makes Leaf great! Please refer to my FAQ if you have a certain question I've heard a lot.

TO DO: Add more pictures.

GENERATION 1 - MYSTERY GIRL

What can we gather about Leaf? Unfortunately, it's rather scarce out here without falling to headcanon territory. And a lot of "it'd be cool if this thing happened". Still, let us finally give her all the attention in the world, in the form of this shrine. Leaf did not get implemented in the very first Pokemon games, tragically leaving Red without a buddy. At least a few artworks of what her design would've looked like exist though. A lot of fanart depicts her getting Mike Wazowski'd, with her face always being obscured by something. In Pokemon Craft DX, she at the very least gets to exist by getting very serious about a sheet of paper and teaching you how to make Pokemon papercrafts. Yay?

In FireRed and LeafGreen, she finally exists as the female player character. How her whole story differs from Red's will now be up to you for the next 14 years, since once again she won't be making much appearances. But I might have a hunch where she goes next after FRLG, when Red goes to Mt. Silver. A 2005 New Year's postcard shows her in a wintery landscape, VERY curiously with a Combusken rather than a G1 Pokemon. It's a nice thought that she's definitely out there, continuing on having her own adventures out there, and Hoenn was her next stop.

...huh? Look, it's Leaf in Pokemon Let's Go! Referred to as "Green", to bring us utter confusion for no reason. Still, this shrine will assume the two to be the same character. This Leaf is incredibly gutsy and instantly established as being just as strong as Red and Green. She gets a great animated short, where she fearlessly gets through the Cerulean Cave in her search for Mewtwo. In the Japanese version, she's referred to as something of a big sister type. While Red seems to just roll his eyes when Green is one step ahead of him, Leaf shows a bit of an opposite personality where she does NOT have patience for someone who's one step ahead of her. Elaine has caught Mewtwo before her and very upset about this, Leaf challenges Elaine to a battle. However, Leaf accepts her defeat eventually.

POKEMAS

This Leaf is described as sporty with a sharp wit, she frequently reminds you to go touch grass, and she's someone who wishes to have adventures always every day, even when she's asleep. Leaf's relationship with the two boys gets finally explored more in Pokemon Masters. After all three separating to go on their own paths each, they form a team again in Pasio. Leaf is the talkative to Red's quiet, and her understanding of Red is just as strong as Green's. Towards Green, she's lightheartedly cheeky, tending to push his buttons, as she too is Green's rival. Aside from Red and Green, Misty is an important friend of Leaf, as confirmed by the Trainer Lodge. Leaf is also often shown to be hanging out with Misty, which is a friendship I'd love to see.

Leaf's tone when she's around Red could be something to note. She is clearly good friends with Red, but sometimes when there's a lot of talk about how great Red is, she sort of sounds like she's constantly trying to remind other trainers that she's strong too. She expressed jealousy when Red managed to catch Snorlax. It makes me wonder if Leaf feels like she's under Red's shadow. It'd be interesting to see Red's point of view here. What does he think of Leaf?

No, the Leaf shrine on this site isn't the biggest novel ever. But this should not discourage people from making her into a fully fleshed character like they do with Red and Green. Folks have very little information of male characters yet can come up with anything for them, try that with female characters one day as well!
